OXFAM REACTION TO PRESIDENT OBAMA’S UN CLIMATE SPEECH

COMMENT FROM DAVID WASKOW, Oxfam International spokesperson:

“President Obama recognized that many are on the front lines of climate change right now. But those suffering from famine, drought and flooding now and in future generations will not be comforted by just the recognition of the problem, they need action.

Those on the front lines of the battle against climate change need a fair, ambitious and binding global deal that will reduce emissions and provide support to cope with the impacts they face.

President Obama recognized that climate change is not a go-it-alone proposition and that the solution to the climate change challenge is about both mitigation and adaptation. Now is the time to put President Obama’s words into action.

President Obama received a warm reaction to his climate speech on the world stage today. We hope Congress was watching as well and are ready to deliver strong legislative action.”
